2017 Summertime Blues lineup announcement!

2017 Summertime Blues lineup announcement!

August 24 – 27th ◆ Maffeo Sutton Park

Thursday August 24th

Loaves & Fishes Food Bank fundraiser!

Five regional bands each playing a set and then let the jam begin. The show will be at least twice as long as last year’s show.

All the proceeds from Thursday’s event will be donated to Nanaimo’s Loaves & Fishes Food Bank.  Suggested donation is non-perishable items and/or cash with a minimum value of ten dollars per person.

Last year we collected a whopping 191 Kgs of food and over $1600 in cash.  The Food Bank was very happy with the donation.  Hats off to our fabulous fans for being so generous. Let’s do it again!

Here’s the lineup for the fundraiser, on August 24th (in no particular order, it will be decided that night by drawing slots).

Alexander’s Bluestime Band
Lady V and the Key Krasher
Lazy Mike and the Rockin’ Recliners
Renovation Blues Band
Thor and the Thundercats

When these sets are completed The Queens Shuffle will take over. It will feature even more musicians than last year and they will play for a longer period of time.  This will be lots of fun for everyone!

President’s Message – April 2017

gerold250What an amazing line-up for this years Summertime Blues 2017. The calibre of entertainment is top notch with multiple Maple Blues Award winners, Juno winners and other honored “Blues Awards”. We are presenting the best of the best. And to top it off with a Sunday All Star Women of the Blues! Smokin’ cinders…. going to be a hot time for sure. Make sure that if you are a member of the NBS that we have sent you out a special promotion regarding early bird tickets. If you haven’t taken already taken advantage please go back to your inbox and find the email that saves you some cash. If you are currently not a member and want to take advantage of the special pricing, drop me an email and I will personally take care of your request. You must respond prior to April 30 to be able to take advantage of this special offering.

Our AGM held in March was a success. Current board members stood for a further year. Lex Dunn tendered his resignation and the board graciously accepted it and thanks Lex for his past service and contributions to the Society. Doug Fetherston became the newest board member and brings much needed skill sets to our board. Welcome Doug.

A bit of redundancy if you have read the entire newsletter to this point. I have had a discussion with the Queen’s Hotel regarding our Blues Jam. It seems that some folks are bringing in their own alcoholic beverages. This must stop immediately or we will have to implement bag checking at the door. I am sure none of us want this impediment to our fun time at the Queens. So if you are a guilty party or know of someone who is, please respect the Queens Hotel and curtail that activity immediately. Your cooperation is appreciated.

On a happy note, early bird tickets have now been sold as far away as Edmonton, Alberta, Annandale, Virginia, Whitehorse, Yukon, Chilliwack, Port Moody, Victoria, Cumberland, Comox etc. We have garnered Blues fans from all over and thank you folks for stepping up to the plate early and making your plans to attend our incredible festival.

Please do your part in promoting our festival. Like our Facebook Page and share with your friends and family. We would like Summertime Blues to be the biggest and best ever. We already have the line-up. Now we just need an audience. Thanks for all that you do.

Until the next time.

2017 Summertime Blues!

August 24 – 27th
Maffeo Sutton Park

An update from the Vice President:

The lineup for the 2017 Summertime Blues Festival is almost ready. I will be announcing March 1st.

This year we will be celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday by bringing the cream of the crop of the Canadian blues scene with more Maple Blues award winners and nominees than ever before.

We have some great US headliners coming in. Some legends, up and comers and crowd favourites.  This year you will get to see more acts that you have never seen here in Nanaimo before.

I’ve listened to your requests to see more new acts.

Sunday is being dedicated to the strength, magic, and diversity of women of the blues. An entire day of the festival of featuring top rank women artists from Canada, USA and Australia.

Last year we added a short show on Thursday night that showcased the wonderful talents that hosts and participates in our Sunday Jams. We are expanding on that. The Queens Shuffle Supergroup will be back but we are adding five local bands on Thursday night. Like last year Thursday will be open to all with a cash or food item donation to the Loaves and Fishes food bank.

We will also be hosting after show jams each night of the festival at the Queens Hotel. Admission to the after party is free with your festival wrist band.

It’s going to be an exciting year!

The place to be August 24, 25, 26 and 27 is Nanaimo, we hope you make plans to join us.

Our thanks to our Summertime Blues sponsors!
