Building on the success of the Summertime Blues! 2005, 2006 and 2007 free outdoor Blues festivals, the Nanaimo Blues Festival Society will be presenting Summertime Blues! 2008. The 2008 festival will follow the same format which proved so successful at the 2007 event.
Summertime Blues! 2008 will take place from Friday, August 15 to Sunday August 24 on the Harbourfront Plaza. The basic format will be an initial 3-day weekend of free outdoor performances on 2 stages followed by 5 evenings of instructional workshops by Festival artists at the Blues Underground and closing with a 2-day weekend of free outdoor performances on 2 stages..
The basic schedule will be as follows (subject to change as planning advances):
Friday, August 15

Harbourfront Plaza Stages 1 and 2 (alternating) 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM - Performances by local Blues artists and major Canadian Blues artists closing with a performance by a headline quality BC or National Blues artist

Saturday August 16

Harbourfront Plaza Stages 1 and 2 (alternating) 1:30 PM - 11:00 PM - Performances by local Blues artists and major Canadian Blues artists closing with a performance by a headline quality BC or National Blues artist

Sunday August 17

Harbourfront Plaza Stages 1 and 2 (alternating) 12:00 PM - 11:00 PM - Performances by local Blues artists and major Canadian Blues artists closing with a performance by a headline quality BC or National Blues artist

Monday Aug 18 to Friday August 22

The Blues Under Ground (10 Lois Lane) Various times throughout the evening – Instructional workshops by Festival artists.

Saturday August 23

Harbourfront Plaza Stages 1 and 2 (alternating) 1:30 PM - 11:00 PM - Performances by local Blues artists and major Canadian Blues artists closing with a performance by a headline quality BC or National Blues artist

Ladies Sing the Blues - Women’s Blues Showcase
Performances by local female Blues artists and major female Canadian Blues artists focusing on the role of women in the development of the Blues - closing with a performance by a headline quality National female Blues artist.
